We are coordinating with local NGOs, local government, local solar installers, and microgrid industry partners to provide free emergency power for community relief hubs across the affected area.
Located about 10 miles north of Lahaina Town, Napili Park is a large resilience hub for the community. Supply and meal distribution, medical services, drop-in child care, counseling, and more are currently being provided, and a K-12 school is in the works - children and families want to get back to class, but it's unsafe, unhealthy, and traumatizing to return to ground zero.
The solar microgrid is powering tools, wifi, phones, laptops, lighting, refrigeration, and more to come as the hub continues to expand its services to thrle community. *friday post*
Hawai’ian kalo (taro) farmers living off the grid on ancient land containing loi kalo (wetland taro fields), burials of ancestors, and heaiu (Hawai’ian temple), including stewards of the Na 'Aikane o Maui Cultural and Research Center that was lost in the fire, now have solar + battery systems to replace their gas generators. They will also be home schooling all of the children due to the schools in Lahaina being closed.
