Black eyed peas and Eric's wild side!

Hello dear hyrax supporters,

Summer has arrived in South Africa! And guess who absolutely loves it? That’s right… the dassies!

Eric has started taking more excursions out into the wild and is spending less time around camp. Of course we miss seeing him as often, but at the same time we are very happy to see him embracing his wild side. Where these adventures will take him next, we will have to wait and see!

One question we are often here asked here at DAKTARI is: “What is a dassie’s favourite snack?”

The answer is very easy. Black-eyed peas! We actually discovered this by accident a few years ago, when one of our volunteers tried to grow pea shoots. No matter where she placed the pot of soaked peas, Câline somehow managed to find it and help herself... So eventually we gave up trying to hide them and simply started buying black-eyed peas especially for the dassies.
They go absolutely crazy for them. In fact, yesterday Câline chased Boyfriend away when he came a little too close to her portion. Don’t worry, we had made two separate piles so both of them could enjoy their snack in peace!

And one last thing before we go!

On Friday 13 November, DAKTARI is hosting a very special fundraising evening together with Radisson Safari Hotel Hoedspruit and Dr Peter Rogers, who has been caring for DAKTARI’s animals since our very first days.
Peter has worked as a wildlife vet in the Greater Kruger area for almost 50 years, and during the evening he will share some of the most memorable, funny, difficult and fascinating stories from his career.

And the best part for our international supporters is that you can join us from anywhere in the world because the event will be livestreamed! Livestream tickets are R300 (around €17 / $19) and the funds raised will go directly to DAKTARI.

So if you love wildlife, enjoy a good story and would like to support DAKTARI at the same time, we would absolutely love to have you with us --> Book your livestream ticket and read more about the event .

Thank you again for being part of our dassie and DAKTARI-family!

Warm wishes from all of us at DAKTARI… and AWAWA!!
