Hello dear hyrax (dassie) supporters,
First of all, a big thank you to all our generous donors! Your support helps us give Caline and Eric the care, food and love they need, and we are so grateful to have so many people around the world caring about our little dassie family.
Spring has arrived at DAKTARI and the days are getting warmer. Needless to say, the dassies are very happy about this!
We also recently had a very special visitor. Michael Kuroda from HyraxHub came all the way to DAKTARI and spent a week with us, although I think it would be more accurate to say that he spent a week with the dassies!
During Michael's visit, we took Eric to a nearby rocky area where we know wild dassies live. We thought he might be curious to see them and perhaps even make some new friends. Eric explored the rocks, climbed around and waited... but unfortunately, the wild dassies decided not to make an appearance that day. Maybe next time!
Meanwhile, Boyfriend has created his own little adventure back at DAKTARI. Caline's wild friend recently discovered one of our empty animal enclosures and simply moved himself in! We always keep some enclosures empty in case an animal urgently needs our help, but apparently Boyfriend thought one of them was available for rent.
As I write this, he has been there for three days. The door is completely open, he can leave whenever he wants... but he doesn't! Caline and Eric visit him there, and of course we have been serving him plates of spinach, vegetables and fruit for breakfast and dinner.
Maybe that's the problem. Boyfriend seems to think he has checked into a resort.
And for everyone who aks themselves, "How can I meet Caline and Eric?" Well... come and volunteer with us! You will help us teach children from underprivileged rural communities about the environment and wildlife, while also helping to care for our animals. And yes, that means plenty of opportunities to have dassies appearing in your daily life! Come and volunteer at DAKTARI .
Thank you again for being part of our dassie family.
Warm wishes from all of us at DAKTARI... and AWAWA!!
