Cancer affects more than a patient’s health. For families living in extreme poverty, especially in rural communities and informal settlements in Kenya, it can bring financial hardship, emotional strain, and disruption to children’s education and everyday life. Six Bridges Foundation works to provide essential medical, material, and emotional support to vulnerable cancer patients and their families.
1. Keeping Patients Connected to Healthcare
Seven vulnerable cancer patients received medical insurance cover for the next one year up to 2027. This support helps reduce the financial barriers that can prevent patients from accessing healthcare and continuing with needed treatment. For families already facing significant economic pressure, insurance coverage unlocks their treatment, offers greater security and a better chance of seeking care when it is needed.
2. Restoring Dignity for Women Battling Cervical Cancer
Women especially single mothers affected by cervical cancer may experience difficult symptoms and treatment-related challenges that make personal hygiene and comfort especially important. Six Bridges Foundation provided hygiene and comfort items, including adult diapers, to help women manage these challenges with greater dignity. Access to suitable supplies can reduce discomfort and help address the stigma, shame and isolation that may arise when patients lack appropriate hygiene products. There is a very high demand and a widening gap in provision of these items .
3. Supporting Children and Families Affected by Cancer
Food and clothing were provided to 33 children and family members affected by cancer-related hardship. When a parent or caregiver becomes seriously ill, household income and daily routines can be disrupted, and children may struggle to access basic necessities. This support helped ease some of the immediate pressure on vulnerable households and reminded families that they are not alone in facing these challenges as their loved ones continue to fight cancer.
4. Keeping Students in School and Supporting Their Dreams
Six Bridges Foundation paid school fees for eight boys and girls from vulnerable families, helping them remain in school and continue working towards their dreams. When cancer places financial pressure on a household, education can become difficult to sustain. This support helps ease that burden and gives students hope, stability, and the opportunity to keep building their futures.
Looking Ahead
Six Bridges Foundation remains committed to standing alongside vulnerable cancer patients, caregivers, and children affected by cancer. With continued support, we hope to reach more vulnerable cancer patients and families with healthcare assistance, education, essential supplies, and community-based support that protects dignity and strengthens resilience.
We sincerely thank GlobalGiving for giving us this opportunity to raise funds and all donors and well-wishers who has helped make this work possible. Your support brings practical assistance and renewed hope to needy patients and families navigating cancer.
