(We will march forward through education, that's our preparation,
On that note, give me a high 5!)
Dear donor,
That's what one of our young beneficiaries from our new campaign 'De Taali' (give me a high five) campaign has to say. De Taali is Breakthrough's new campaign on adolescent empowerment for all our five intervention states in India.
I would like to share some happy pictures and a quick update from our Kishori Mela (School-level fair) under the #DeTaali campaign. Our Kishori Mela in schools is focused on the value of education of girls, reducing gender discrimination, gender biased sex selection, and prevention of early marriage. It has been observed that in many of the rural areas where Breakthrough works, education of girls is of least priority and there are high drop-out rates in schools. Girls are married off early in these rural areas from where begins the cycle of violence because of the low value they have in the eyes of their families and the larger society. These adolescent girls have their own dreams and aspirations. But there is no proper guidance on the type of education they need to pursue and how it connects to their dreams.
As part of Kishori Mela, there are fun-filled activities that happen during the day like 'Thank You' letters from students to their parents for sending them to schools, drawing competitions, poster competitions focused on career paths, and theatre competition focused on career choices of girls and boys.
Here's a little snippet of the campaign branding for the campaign:

Stay tuned here with us for more updates on this new campaign. In the interim, I hope you enjoy seeing the full filled pictures from the activities so far.
Looking forward to your continued support.
Warmly,
Jocelyn
