Speaking up for your Rights: we are seeing change!

Dear donor,

Let me tell you a small change story! Yes, we are slowly seeing change seep into our communities in Harayana.

Sanjana's* life has changed since she started to speak up for her rights. She fought with her family and convinced them that girls are no less than boys.

Sanjana is an 8th standard student from Panipat, Haryana. She had been facing gender discrmination within home - her brother gets better food and education than her. Her family doesn't believe in higher education for girls. They send her brother to a private school where he gets better quality education while she goes to a government one.

Sanjana learnt about gender based discrimination in the #‎TaaronKiToliclasses run by Breakthrough in her school. With the help of our interactive life-skills curriculum in these classes, she slowly started becoming aware of her rights, she started asserting herself at home and convince her parents about her right to be educated as well as her brother. It took a while to convince her father but after many attempts her father promised that he would transfer her to a good private school. Today, Sanjana aspires to go to a better school and sees herself becoming the pride of her family by educating herself well and reaching her full potential.

Breakthrough is working to create more Sanjana’s who know their rights and can convince their families to support them. You can help us spread this work. Your contribution will help us nurture more Sanjana’s and create a more sentised and better world for our girls to live in.
