Here’s wishing you all a very Happy New Year. With the support and encouragement received by generous people like you, Breakthrough continued its endeavour of making violence against women unacceptable throughout 2015, and is now all geared up for the coming year.
In the last 30 days, Breakthrough's #MissionHazaar video van journeyed across four districts of Haryana - Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar - and reached 1,30,000+ people through 219 street theatre shows where students, teachers, parents, volunteers from 200 government and private schools, colleges, universities and various government departments participated.
‘Mission Hazaar'- Breakthrough's campaign in Haryana, strategically connects the growing concern about women's safety and restrictions on mobility with ‘lack of girls.’ The central focus of all the video van activities was to engage communities and talk about how boys and girls are treated differently leading to gender biased sex selection. Our events marking ‘Mission Hazaar’ aim to deepen the awareness about the issue in every strata of population by using Video Vans that use various interactive tools like street play, video loop and fun games to educate the students and masses about the nuances of gender based discrimination and how it leads to gender biased sex selection.
All our teams, partners and stakeholders came together to celebrate the culmination of the #MissionHazaar video van run at Rohtak. Our chief guest felicitated women achievers - wrestlers, boxers, judo champions, first women bus drivers, pink auto drivers and police personnel – women achievers all from Haryana. The district heads of the Department of Health, Women and Child development, Red Cross Society, teachers and principals of Taroon Ki Toli (Breakthrough youth clubs), school students, frontline health workers were present during the show, over 750 people as our audience. Our on-ground mobilisation was supported and scaled up to reach millions world-wide through our online platforms as well. It is heartening to see the support that our work receives and how people are now in greater numbers becoming aware and sensitive towards gender issues.
The New Year comes with new hope. Hope, that one day there will be no discrimination between a boy and a girl child, that families welcome their daughters with as much joy as they welcome their sons. Though a tough task, Breakthrough hopes that with generous donors like you we will be able to keep our Mission Hazaar work going and keep the dream alive of making the world a safer place with more women in public spaces.
I request you again to spread the word about our work among your friends and family, and if you aren’t already one, become a recurring donor and support our work on a continued basis.
Here’s wishing for a wonderful year ahead.
Warmly,
Jocelyn
