TLC is committed to upholding the value of quality over quantity. Founded in 1993 to address the serious need for quality childcare for abandoned children in South Africa, we are registered to care for up to 32 infants and children under the age of 3 years old (upon admission). Our vision is to ensure that each child is placed into a responsible "forever family", whilst we provide the best possible care and every opportunity for them to develop to their full potential. But we need your help!
TLC has cared for over 800 babies since we began in 1993, and nearly 900 volunteers have given time to help us. That's a lot of people using our nursery! Even with the best love and care, time has taken its toll on our nursery and it now needs repair work, updating and refreshing. The areas that need particular attention are the ones that are used the most - the bathroom, the floors and the sofas, but we would love to take this opportunity to give the whole nursery a much needed facelift.
This project is focussed on the following areas: *Bathroom - repair water damaged areas and installing new storage spaces. *Flooring - it's seen a lot of first steps and now needs replacing. *Lighting - help us make it bright and welcoming in the day and cosy at bedtime. *Store Room - replace damaged shelving and install a secure door to prevent babies' access to cleaning aids. *Sofas - perfect for cuddles, they now need replacing. *Mirror - an excellent play aid. *Paint - a fresh, bright look.
Being able to tackle the nursery's needs in one go allows us to create the least disruption for the babies as possible. It is important to us that the environment the babies grow up in is as comfortable, safe and inviting as we can make it. Ensuring that the practical areas, such as the bathroom, are in top condition allow us to undertake daily tasks more efficiently, and installing new storage areas means that volunteers can find what they need quickly, giving them more time for play!
