Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) destroys the vision of millions of people and robs them of their independence. Instead of sinking into depression and isolation, they can find help and hope.
Imagine how you would feel if your doctor told you that you had an eye disease, there is no treatment and no cure and that you will eventually become blind. Every three minutes, someone hears this message and receives no other information. When they contact the Macular Degeneration Partnership, they find information and resources they need to live with AMD. They learn what they can do to slow the progression of the disease, take control of their lives and regain their independence.
We provide the AMD Toolkit, a comprehensive packet with booklets about AMD, vision rehabilitation, resources and tools like the self test for AMD. Callers to our warm line receive personal support and warm understanding from our professional staff.
The National Eye Institute estimates 34% fewer people will develop severe vision loss if they make recommended changes in lifestyle. This will mean a more independent, healthy and safe nation and lower healthcare costs.
