Since introducing ultrasound services at Unyama Health Facility, our community has experienced a dramatic improvement in access to diagnostic care. Previously, patients had to travel long distances to town—facing traffic delays and overcrowded clinics—to receive essential imaging. With onsite ultrasound, pregnant women, trauma patients, and other community members now receive timely diagnosis locally, ensuring faster treatment and better health outcomes.
One expectant mother, identified during an antenatal visit, received early intervention for a high-risk pregnancy, resulting in a safe delivery. Stories like hers demonstrate the critical role that accessible ultrasound plays in protecting lives and improving maternal and child health in our community.
Building on this success, we hope to acquire a portable ultrasound machine for our sister facility at Agonga. This will not only enhance services for patients visiting the facility but also strengthen outreach programs, allowing our team to provide early diagnosis and emergency support directly in remote communities. Many residents currently face long, inconvenient journeys for imaging, and the portable unit will bring life-saving diagnostics directly to them.
With a portable ultrasound at Agonga, we will reduce referrals to town, improve maternal and child health outcomes through early detection of complications, and increase the efficiency and reach of outreach programs. By expanding ultrasound services, we are strengthening healthcare access across Northern Uganda, ensuring that diagnostic support reaches those who need it most, when they need it most.
