In Taiwan's rural areas, children face some of the widest learning gaps in the world. Each year, Teach For Taiwan (TFT) recruits and trains 100+ full-time teachers who commit two years to serving in rural elementary schools. These teachers bring stability to classrooms where consistent instruction is often missing. Your monthly donation ensures these teachers can continue supporting rural children-so learning never stops for those who need it most.
Children in Taiwan's rural areas fall behind academically at twice the rate of their urban peers. According to PISA (2022), the math ability gap between the top 10% and bottom 10% of students reaches six school years-the widest gap globally. 27% of teachers in rural schools are temporary or substitute teachers-meaning 1 in every 4 teachers lacks stable placement. Teacher turnover in rural schools is twice as high as in urban areas, disrupting relationships and instructional continuity.
We respond to these challenges by recruiting and preparing 100+ full-time teachers every year to serve in rural classrooms Before entering their schools, each teacher completes: 500+ hours of professional training. Coursework in curriculum design, classroom management, and child development During their two-year commitment, TFT-trained teachers Provide stable, high-quality teaching where short-term substitutes are common Work closely with schools and families to sustain learning progress
Since its launch, We have trained 450+ teachers, supporting more than 7,500 rural children across the country. Remarkably, 80% of trained teachers continue working in education or public-impact sectors, extending their influence far beyond their initial two years of teaching. With stable, well-prepared teachers in their classrooms, children experience: Stronger academic growth Increased confidence and motivation Better attendance and engagement Expanded access to meaningful opportunities
