Stories of Identity

By Kendra Nicolai | Board President

Everyone in this world has an identity, something that they identify themselves as.  This is a distinct characteristic that can describe who someone is or believes in.  Write Our World aims to help youth become empowered to share their identities through ebook authoring.  Youth are encouraged to talk about their culture, families, language, holidays, religion, schools and much more.  Imagine immigrating into a new country, being forced to learn a new language, new customs and to make new friends.  This is the reality of many young people around the world.  Write Our World gives these young people the opportunity to write in their native languages, talk about their culture and preserve their identity.
We are excited to be working in a few different summer camps around metro Denver and have continued to have books submitted from various schools.  Most recently, Alicia Sanchez International School in Lafayette has submitted memoirs into the digital library and Steamboat High School is completing biographies to be submitted into the library.
Write Our World has also been selected as the Keyonte Speaker for the CoTESOL conference in Denver.  We are excited to be chosen to share our work and inspire educators!
We have shared a couple of excerpts from books in our digital library here on GlobalGiving.  To read more, visit our website: www.writeourworld.org
