Since our founding, LULAC has established a track record of success by creating a culture of achievement through innovative and robust programs, leadership development, and advocacy. It was no surprise that LULAC immediately responded to the concerns of the community at the commencement of the pandemic.
As soon as we received calls of concerned citizens seeking resources and guidance regarding COVID-19, LULAC immediately created a toolkit, Ayuda En Español (#ayudaenespanol), with resources in Spanish aimed to inform native Spanish speakers and communities on matters impacted by the virus. The toolkit's sections included health updates and best practices, unemployment benefits, social services, educational and technology resources, and much more. This toolkit is comprehensive and inclusive to anyone who reads in Spanish regardless of their legal status. We understood the immediate need to spread awareness of various resources regarding recognizing symptoms and best practices for prevention. Your support helped LULAC launch a communication campaign. This communication campaign targeted Radio PSAs and the highest online platforms that Hispanics frequent.
Additionally, LULAC provided clinics and hospitals in 5 states and Washington DC serving the Hispanic community with over 1,600 face shields. Clinics and hospitals were awarded supplies with a minimum of 60% of their patients Hispanics and offering free or low-cost services.
Lastly, LULAC created a relief fund to support LULAC councils and individuals who have been financially affected. Our LULAC councils were able to execute socially distanced events and offer the Spanish language serviced food bank distributions that provided the community with groceries, essential items, mental health counseling, and mentorship. For those who did not have transportation to pick up their items, LULAC offered Lyft codes. Through this relief fund, LULAC was able to supply students with more than 400 laptops to keep students and families connected to resources and support remote learning.
This would not be possible without your support!
