Jeje Community in Karu LGA, Nasarawa State, Nigeria faces a severe WASH crisis. Over 80% of households rely on contaminated water sources shared with animals, while less than 15% have access to functional toilets, leading to open defecation and frequent outbreaks of cholera, typhoid, and diarrheal diseases. Women and children spend 4-6 hours daily fetching unsafe water, risking their health and limiting education and livelihoods
This project will address Jeje Community's WASH crisis by delivering an integrated solution: providing safe water through protected boreholes, improving access to clean and dignified sanitation facilities, and implementing community-wide hygiene education on handwashing, safe water storage, and treatment. By combining infrastructure with behavior change and community ownership, the project will reduce waterborne diseases, protect women and children, and create sustainable improvements in health
By providing safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene education in Jeje Community, this project will significantly reduce waterborne diseases, lower child and maternal illness, and decrease time spent fetching unsafe water. Over time, healthier families will see better school attendance, improved livelihoods, greater dignity for women and girls, and stronger community resilience, creating lasting public-health and social benefits.
