Oaxaca is the second poorest state among the 31 states of Mexico; despite having great biodiversity and benefiting from the state's tourism industry. Oaxaca is home to 33% of the country's indigenous population. Students often drop out of school due to a lack of financial resources and support systems. To combat these problems, CEI developed an educational program to generate feelings of belonging and promote family unity through the defense of their human rights.
Students abandon their schooling due to a lack of economic resources and motivation, as well as a sizeable jump in difficulty level between junior high and high school that leaves them ill prepared and unmotivated. Difficulty in life, especially after the Covid 19 pandemic, is worsening the situation in Oaxaca Mexico. Students motivation towards schooling is getting worse with the economic situation in the state.
