This past autumn and winter, we have been hard at work making preparations for a “mast” year. A mast year is one where a tree will produce an incredible amount of fruit, these occur every few years when conditions are just right. For example, a large Oak tree can produce a bumper crop of 10,000 acorns during a mast year!
We have laid our roots and are finding a solid foundation with warmth and community support at Weaver Creek Park. Moving to Jovial's permanent home has been a significant undertaking. Although the relocation is ongoing, we've continued efforts to establish the park as a beautiful, food-producing green space. And just this past fall we planted and mulched an additional 50 peach, pear, and cherry trees in the orchard!
Last year, we were able to build a mobile community garden bed at a shelter for those experiencing homelessness; host spring, summer, and fall youth gardening workshops; build fenced raised bed gardens for multiple schools, moved to our forever home, and hosted a honey extraction workshop, in addition to our traditional seasonal garden activities.
This year, we are planning an initiative to bring new life to Jovial garden beds not only at Weaver Creek but also at schools around the Denver metro. Our efforts have resulted in valuable community connections, and we are committed to nurturing and expanding these relationships to amplify the impact of our mission. Stay tuned this year, we have some exciting things in the works!
Your support helps us accomplish our mission to educate the community about healthy foods, organic gardening, and build garden fellowship. We would like to sincerely thank you for your support; none of this would be possible with you!
