This Spring has been super wet, but that hasn't stopped us from pressing on!
This spring, we partnered with a couple other non-profit organizations and a ton of volunteers to plant over 100 fruit trees at Weaver Creek Park! It was a wet morning but we got the job done, thanks in large part to the efforts of volunteers and coordinators for the event. Pictures are attached below! It is very exciting to be planting trees because in just a few short years, the community will have a wonderful source of fruit. We have plans to host school field trips, and of course harvest and send all of the produce we gather to local food pantries! It's an amazing site with pears and cherries and peaches, oh my!
We have been busy this spring also building gardens for a couple schools in the area. One of my favorite parts of this work is seeing the transformation of space from dusty old unused lots or plots of weeds into nice outdoor garden based classrooms. We strongly believe in educating children about the food system and getting our hands into the dirt and connecting the growing world around us. And what better way to support than by hosting workshops and helping to build these spaces.
We have continued our community gardening projects as well, and while the rain has pushed back our schedule a little bit we are mostly on track for having all gardens planted and irrigation set up! This is exciting because, we harvest produce from the gardens later in the year for donation as well. I am also excited to relay that our I/DD gardening workshops are continuing and growing; we have been gardening with an additional new organization this year! It has been a blast, and our outdoor learning spaces are thriving!
You can see some photos of our work below! Thank for everyone for all of your support, it goes a long way to helping support our mission of educating the community about gardens, providing fresh and healthy produce to the community, and building gardens with the community.
Happy Spring everyone!
