Helloooo Crocus!
Have you noticed the beautiful purple and yellow flowers starting to pepper our landscapes? These are crocuses, the first flower of the year to raise its head and feed the bees for garden season.
We kicked off our Spring by prepping James' farm with the help of Truman University students. These ambitios young men and women helped us clear 6 yards of wood chips, lay paths, and move some heavy junk, so that we will have a clean, well loved, new site to bring our soil.
James Doogan (name changed for privacy) is a long time Lakewood resident and his house happens to be in the heart of all our Jovial Gardens. He is a farmer, friend, and volunteer who is passionate about working with adults with disabilities. James has a huge heart as an be seen by his yard full of chickens, an old rescue beagle and sweet rescue cat. James says hes happiest when the firepit is going with live music. He enjoys using his farm and artistic persuits to create community and cultivatie relationships with food andthe environment on his farm. We are so apreciative to have him as a friend and partner.
The Truman University students had a great time and even got out of work on Wednesday during the blizzard and got to try their hand at sledding. Jovial Gardens is greatful for both these long term collaborations and we look forward to seeing the students back next spring.
As we move into the garden season we are looking for volunteers, master gardeners, and financial contributions to launch 2019 as our largest growing season yet. Jovial Gardens is bringing in 13 new gardens in the Barnum, Denver and Lakewood neighborhoods and we need your help. Including Barnum Library and Elementary School!
