At Creativity for Peace we are often asked, why do girls want to come to camp? The answers are as many and as varied as there are campers.
Some are curious to get to know their enemy. They have never had the chance at home.
Some are angry. They want others to know how painful their lives have been.
Some love art. They need to express their hopes and fears through different media.
Some simply want to visit America. They seek to move beyond the conflict and into new experiences.
But we know that all our campers are following a dream.
A dream of living at peace with their neighbors.
During the selection process for this year’s camp, Johanna shared that the hardest thing in her life was witnessing her brother come back home broken after serving in the army in the 2009 Gaza war. She said that she is tired of being told she cannot make a difference or change the world she lives in ... she believes she can make a difference … and your donation will help her make it.
Sara shared stories of her grandfather who used to write poetry for Palestine. Poems full of dreams and hopes for his homeland, dreams of peace. He passed away a year ago and Sara wants the opportunity to speak for him, for herself and for her fellow Palestinians … and your donation is giving her a voice.
On day five of our appeal to Give Johanna and Sara a Voice for Peace thirty two donors have helped us raise $2,080.
We’re at 42 percent of our challenge goal to raise $5,000 in 30 days, and 25 percent of our overall project goal of $8,400.
