The Tummy2Class School Feeding Programme provided nutritious daily meals to 100 vulnerable learners at Salvation Army Community School in Kawama, Ndola, during Term 2 of 2026. Approximately 10,000 meals were served, helping children begin their school day with the nourishment they need to participate in class, stay engaged, and learn. Alongside the feeding programme, all 100 children underwent nutritional screening to monitor their growth and identify those requiring additional support.
The results show encouraging progress. Among the 72 children matched with Term 1 records, average weight increased by 1.21 kg, height by 2.04 cm, and MUAC by 0.38 cm. Nutritional oedema reduced from one case in Term 1 to zero cases in Term 2, while more children progressed to consuming at least three meals per day. School attendance also improved, with increased regular attendance and stronger classroom participation observed among learners.
Despite this progress, 34.6% of participating children continue to experience food insecurity, demonstrating that many families still face significant challenges in meeting children's nutritional needs outside school. Tummy2Class is therefore working beyond simply providing meals by combining feeding, nutrition monitoring, caregiver engagement, and targeted follow-up. Continued support will help sustain these gains and ensure that vulnerable children have the nourishment, health and opportunity they need to remain in school and thrive.
