1. Introduction

The Tummy2Class School Feeding Programme was launched to combat malnutrition, improve school attendance, and enhance academic performance among vulnerable children at Lotus Community School. By providing a daily nutritious meal (Umoyo Nutrition Porridge), the programme ensures that children are better nourished and able to focus on their education.

2. Progress to Date

Since its commencement, the programme has made significant strides in reaching its intended objectives.

  • Meals Delivered: Over 1,000 nutritious meals have been provided to children at Lotus Community School.

  • Beneficiaries: Currently reaching 100 children daily, ensuring consistency in access to a balanced meal.

  • Attendance & Engagement: Teachers have reported noticeable improvements in class participation, attentiveness, and reduced absenteeism.

  • Community Engagement: Parents and community members have shown growing interest and support, volunteering their time to assist with meal preparation and monitoring.

3. Achievements

  • Established a reliable meal delivery schedule with no major interruptions.

  • Strengthened partnerships with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Umoyo, Kawama Clinic, and Arthur Davidson Children’s Hospital to ensure the programme’s sustainability.

  • Conducted baseline health and nutrition screenings to monitor children’s progress over time.

4. Challenges

  • Rising costs of essential food items have slightly strained the budget.

  • Limited cooking and storage facilities pose logistical challenges during large meal preparations.

5. Next Steps

  • Strengthen monitoring and evaluation to document impact more comprehensively.

  • Continue engaging community members through capacity building and training for sustainability.

6. Conclusion

The Tummy2Class School Feeding Programme has already made a measurable impact by delivering over 1,000 meals to vulnerable children in Kawama, Ndola. Beyond improving nutrition, the programme is contributing to better school attendance, health, and learning outcomes. With continued support, this initiative can be scaled to reach even more children and create lasting change in the community
