You helped send students to enrichment activities

By Cindy Ocasio | AmeriCorps VISTA

Dear friends and supporters:

Thank you! You are making it happen. On behalf of our program participants, staff, and board of directors we want to thank you for your contributions. You helped us reach our goal by raising $3,000We are more than happy to announce that we already have a started our project in Naguabo and Juncos. Next are the activities for the youth in San Juan and Canóvanas.

Because of your generosity, students at risk from Naguabo and Juncos were able to attended an enrichment activities that nurture their creativity, communication, collaboration, cultural and motor skills much needed for their growth and and positive development.

As part of our socio-educational activities and thanks to donations from Giving Tuesday, 9 students participating in our programs in the town of Juncos, visited "Beyond Van Gogh The Immersive Experience".  An exhibit to explore the paintings and life of Vincent Van Gogh. The youth delved into his writings, thoughts, and over 300 paintings projected in 3D format, experiencing the energy, emotion and beauty of his work.

Also, 13 risk youth from Naguabo visited the capital of Puerto Rico for the first time, where they visited some historical and cultural places. Also, they had the opportunity to fly a kite on the Morro (one of the most important historical sites of Old San Juan), for the firts time too. Some young people also had experiences that may be commonplace for others, but for them it was their first time. For example, during the tour of San Juan's historical and cultural sites, they had a stop at Starbucks. Many people are familiar with Starbucks, but many of the young people we impact don't have the resources to go to a place like this. This stop became a learning experience for one of our students. She had never been to Starbucks and had never gone through the experience of ordering her food by herself and one of our Youth Development Guides supported her in doing this.

Can´t wait to share with you the achievements of youth from San Juan and Canóvanas! Thank you for keeping Puerto Rico Youth at Risk vibrant, strong and ready to offer more programs for our youth in the future.

With gratitude,

The Jovenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo, Inc. team
