Dear Supporters,

As we pursue our aim for the continuous enhancement of the capabilities of young persons with disabilities, your extended support and confidence, has helped us increasingly more. We are thoroughly grateful for your constant support in helping these students fulfill their aspirations and strive towards their limitless potential and we hope that we remain as successful and more for our future endeavors.

Plumbing:

The year-long plumbing training at the Hunar Foundation came to an end in June 2017. We are proud to announce that 5 of our 7 trainees with hearing impairment enrolled in this inclusive training passed the exam for the City and Guilds UK certification with flying colours, and are now employed at a construction company since the end of their training.

With the success at the training centre, a second batch of 4 persons with hearing impairment is now enrolled for the training which started in July 2017.

Spa and Beautician:

The Basic Spa course at the Ravissant Salon, which is a member of the international body Pivot Point, ended in August 2017. The training was extended due to the addition of the basic make-up skillset. The 5 trainees with hearing impairment are now preparing for a customer interaction session to be held soon.

We are also preparing to enroll a second batch of trainees with impairment hoping to extend our outreach to women with mild physical impairment.

Radio Broadcasting:

The foundation level course in radio broadcasting, involving 8 persons of visual impairment, began in May of this year, at the Pakistan American Cultural Centre (PACC). Together with classroom theory, there have been guest speaker sessions, and excursions to Radio FM 105, and Radio Pakistan FM 100. The tour of Radio Pakistan FM 100 was accompanied by a recording session that served as an audition of the radio jockey ability of each individual candidate. 2 trainees from the batch were selected to speak on two separate shows airing on Radio FM 100. An additional information session was arranged with the production and marketing team at Radio FM 91 for the trainees to explore more avenues within radio broadcasting.

Auto Body and Paint:

We also initiated Project Shahpar, in collaboration with Aman Foundation and Special Olympics Pakistan, to train persons with hearing impairment and intellectual impairment in the technical skill of Auto Body and Paint. The training began in July 2017 with 7 candidates with hearing impairment and 9 with intellectual impairment. The training will last 6 months, and students will be taught to work on all paint work aspects of the vehicle, such as putty shaping, spray gun operation, primer surface application, paint defects diagnosis etc.

Industrial Stitching:

A batch of 9 persons with hearing impairment and mild physical impairment were enrolled in the training for industrial stitching at the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturing Association (PHMA) vocational training centre. The two month short training course will equip trainees with the knowledge of stitching and provide them with a chance to enter factory setting employment.

Way Forward:

We look forward to further adding to our selection of trade skills, making skills like hospitality management, call-centre training, stitching and others available to persons with disabilities.

NOWPDP is working in collaboration with Hashoo Foundation, to make available their flagship hospitality management training program available to persons with hearing impairment, giving them opportunities to learn and practice the skills required for the hospitality industry while providing practical training in renowned hotels.

We are also planning to initiate further training at the NOWPDP House in different trade skills, as well as other skills to enhance the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities through work-readiness and self-employment training sessions.

Looking forward to report further successes breaking the glass ceiling faced by persons with disabilities!

Until then!
