Small Steps, Brighter Futures – Rafiki Girls Centre October 2026 Update

In August, 40 young women began their life skills training at Rafiki Girls Centre. Through 12 specially designed modules, they are gaining the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to take greater control of their lives and futures. We are delighted that, within just two months, 40% of the young women had already started small income-generating activities, earning money to meet everyday needs such as transport and sanitary products. For young women facing considerable hardship, being able to provide even a little for themselves is a significant step towards independence.

Just as important is the emotional support they receive. Every young woman has participated in at least two counselling sessions, helping them work through personal difficulties and recognise their own worth. For one young woman who had been considering taking her own life, this support has helped her find renewed hope and a sense of self-worth. Another trainee, aged 19, is being supported to obtain her birth certificate. This will not only open up opportunities for her but also enable her to register the birth of her two-year-old child, giving them both a stronger start.

We are so grateful to everyone who supports Rafiki Girls Centre. Behind these achievements are young women who have faced enormous challenges but are determined to make a better life for themselves and their families. Your generosity means they don't have to face those challenges alone. Thank you for giving them the encouragement, practical support and opportunities they deserve. We hope you will share in our pride as they continue to make progress over the coming months.

We also sadly note the passing of one of our own following a long illness. Sholine was a graduate of one of Rafiki's first ever programmes. She went on to be an indispensible part of operations, a role model and an inspiration to all who came thgough the programme since. She is greatly missed.
