Rafiki Girls Centre June 2026 Update

By Nasreen Mohamed | Project Leader

Transforming Lives Beyond the Classroom

During our recent site visit to Rafiki Girls Centre in Harare, we had the opportunity to see first-hand the remarkable impact that your support continues to have on the lives of vulnerable young women.

One of the highlights of the visit was spending time in Mbare, one of Zimbabwe’s most disadvantaged urban communities and home to many Rafiki beneficiaries. Walking through crowded streets affected by poverty, inadequate sanitation and limited opportunities served as a powerful reminder of why Rafiki’s work is so important.

We met current students who spoke openly about the positive changes they are experiencing through the programme. They shared how vocational training, life skills educationand mentorship have helped them develop confidence, strengthen relationships with family and peers and begin earning an income. Most importantly, they described feeling hopeful about their futures.

The message was consistent: Rafiki is providing young women with practical skills and a pathway out of poverty. Students spoke with determination about their ambitions to support their families, build sustainable livelihoods and create better opportunities for the next generation.

Beyond individual success stories, we continue to be impressed by the dedication of the Rafiki team, who work tirelessly to support young women facing significant social and economic challenges. Their commitment ensures that beneficiaries receive not only training, but also encouragement, guidance, and a safe environment in which to grow.

While the organisation continues to navigate funding challenges, the impact of the programme remains clear. Every young woman who gains skills, confidenceand independence through Rafiki represents a life changed and a stronger future for her family and community.

We are deeply grateful to the GlobalGiving community for making these transformations possible. Your support continues to equip vulnerable young women with the tools they need to build brighter, more secure futures.

Thank you for your continued support.
