We firstly wanted to say how grateful we are for your support of this project. We still can’t quite believe that we were able to purchase the perfect bit of land at just the right time – thank you to all our GlobalGiving supporters for making this happen!
However, working on a project like this in India comes with its own pace and practical considerations, and sometimes things take longer than we might hope. Although our new shelter is taking longer to come together than we originally anticipated, we are delighted to say that our vision and enthusiasm remains very much alive and we are pushing forward. We are choosing to see this as an opportunity to make sure that the shelter develops thoughtfully and sustainably, creating a safe, lasting and loving space for the animals who will call it home.
We wanted to share the story of a dog who has touched our hearts. His name is Arthur and he will be making his home in our new shelter as soon as it is ready.
Arthur arrived at TOLFA about a year ago in a very poor condition. At first, he would simply lie in his kennel, offering only a tiny wag of his tail whenever we went in to see him. He received regular physiotherapy but showed very little improvement.
Then, one day, we walked into his kennel and realised he was lying in a different place. He had moved by himself. It was a small change, but it marked the beginning of his recovery. Day by day, Arthur began moving a little more - usually when he thought nobody was watching!
Fast-forward a year, and Arthur now loves hanging out in the office. He is still better on three legs than four and walks with a slight limp, but the change in him is remarkable. Arthur is exactly the kind of dog our new shelter can help: one who needs time, patience and a safe place in which to recover.
Your generosity has helped bring this dream much closer to reality, and we’re so thankful to have you with us on this journey.
We look forward to sharing more progress with you soon - and, most importantly, to the day when we can welcome the first animals into their new home.
