“Books are better investment in our future than bullets. Books, not bullets will pave the path towards peace and prosperity.” – Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for female education
As one of the first responders to enter Butig in Lanao del Sur, PBSP brought storybooks based on the Marawi siege to the students of Butig National High School. This was part of the initial interventions organized by PBSP together with donors and partners to provide the immediate needs of our Muslim brothers and sisters in the area. Since 2016, PBSP has engaged various donors and partners in the rehabilitation efforts and in rebuilding the lives of residents in Butig.
During the recent turnover of the newly-constructed PhilAm Paaralan classrooms in Butig National High School, students of Bayabao Elementary School who attended the event were also given 500 copies of Marawi Storybook Series funded by the PhilAm Foundation and partners.
This Marawi Storybook Series is part of PBSP’s #iReadforPeace Campaign under the Give a Gift of Reading program which aims to bring literacy to kids and help in peace education and trauma healing of children in Marawi. PBSP hopes that these books will also somehow become an inspiration to children in Butig and help them cope and move on with their lives after the war.
