Dear Animal Lover
Mercy was just one of thousands of stray animals admitted during the Christmas of 2021. She'd been found wandering the streets with a leg that had been badly broken at least 8 weeks prior to admission to the the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
She was painfully thin, had definitely delivered her share of puppies and was also suffering from a deadly infection of the womb. Pyometra, is something we often see in unsterilised females and sadly it's a killer!
Mercy underwent surgery to remove her infected womb and her badly broken leg (which couldn't be saved) was amputated at the same time. She was put on a strong pain management and an antibiotic protocol and we held our breath while she fought for her life.
What a fighter she was, quickly stealing hearts and winning over nurses and vets alike, she was the star patient of our hospital in no time at all. Of course the challenge we faced now was to find her a loving home where she would never have to suffer neglect the neglect she had experienced in the past ever again.
When Wendy and Graham stepped up we couldn't have been happier. They were already the Mum and Dad of Charm, a tripod who had lost a hind limb and they knew all the challenges of looking after a dog with Mercy's needs. It was a match made in heaven and yes, Mercy went into a loving home one week before Christmas last year.
We couldn't have asked for a better Christmas gift and we wouldn't have been able to even imagine it without your help! Your donations meant health and a new life for Mercy and for us, it meant we got to witness some special Christmas magic - the kind that remains in your heart forever.
Thank you so much for walking with us through the hardest season of the year in animal welfare. Your support means you believe in us and that's what keeps us motivated and forging ahead during heartbreaking times.
Words aren't enough to thank you for that!
Yours for the love of animals,
Belinda
