Warm greetings from No One Down Relief Organization (NODRO).

We are delighted to share our latest progress report for the project “Give a Goat: Help 2,000 Ethiopian Women.” Through this initiative, NODRO is empowering vulnerable women through livestock support, livelihood development, and economic resilience-building activities.

The project seeks to improve household income, food security, and women's economic independence by providing goats, training, and ongoing technical support to women from disadvantaged communities across Ethiopia.

During this reporting period, significant progress has been made toward improving the livelihoods of women and their families while strengthening community resilience and self-reliance.

Project Overview

The Give a Goat: Help 2,000 Ethiopian Women project aims to reduce poverty and strengthen economic opportunities for vulnerable women through sustainable livestock-based livelihoods.

The project focuses on:

  • Distribution of goats to vulnerable women
  • Livestock management and animal health training
  • Women's economic empowerment
  • Household food security improvement
  • Savings and income-generating activities
  • Community-based livelihood support systems

Key Achievements (March – June 2026)

During this reporting period, the project achieved the following:

  • Distributed goats to 320 vulnerable women beneficiaries
  • Trained 420 women in livestock management, animal care, and small business skills
  • Established 12 women's livelihood and savings groups
  • Conducted veterinary support and animal health services for distributed livestock
  • Reached over 1,900 household members through improved livelihood opportunities
  • Facilitated financial literacy and savings training for participating women
  • Strengthened community support networks for women-led economic activities

Early Impact & Beneficiary Stories

Building a Sustainable Future

A beneficiary from Oromia Region shared:

"Receiving a goat has changed my family's situation. The training helped me learn how to care for the animal, and I now have hope of generating income and supporting my children's education. This support has given me confidence and dignity."

Observed Changes

  • Increased household access to nutritious food, including milk products
  • Improved income opportunities for women beneficiaries

Community Participation

This collaborative approach helps ensure sustainability and local ownership.

Challenges Encountered

Despite positive progress, several challenges were experienced:

  • Rising livestock feed costs due to inflation
  • Occasional animal health concerns requiring additional veterinary support
  • Climate variability affecting grazing and water availability
  • Growing demand for livestock support beyond available resources
  • Transportation challenges in remote communities

Response Measures

NODRO has implemented several measures to address these challenges:

  • Expanded veterinary monitoring and animal health services
  • Strengthened beneficiary training on livestock management
  • Promoted locally available feed and sustainable husbandry practices
  • Improved coordination with local agricultural and livestock offices
  • Sought additional resources to expand beneficiary coverage

Monitoring & Accountability

NODRO maintains strong monitoring and accountability mechanisms through:

  • Regular household and livestock monitoring visits
  • Beneficiary registration and tracking systems
  • Livestock health and productivity assessments
  • Community feedback and complaint response mechanisms
  • Periodic evaluation of project outcomes and impact

Current Key Performance Indicators

  • 320 women received goats
  • 420 women trained in livestock management and entrepreneurship
  • 12 women's savings and livelihood groups established
  • 1,900+ household members indirectly benefited

What’s Next? (July – October 2026)

In the next phase, NODRO plans to:

  • Expand goat distribution to additional vulnerable women
  • Strengthen livestock health and veterinary support services
  • Increase women's access to financial literacy and savings programs
  • Support income diversification opportunities
  • Strengthen women's livelihood groups and cooperative initiatives
  • Improve market access for livestock-related products
