Due to a lack of a suitable language environment and reference materials, teaching Chinese in local Tibetan schools presents challenges. It may take first- and second-grade students as long as a year to build up a sufficient vocabulary to read aloud and recite texts. Donating Chinese-Tibetan bilingual dictionaries to rural children in Qinghai will help them learn more effectively.
Economic development in Yushu Prefecture is relatively underdeveloped, and the lack of a supportive language environment and educational materials has made teaching Chinese in local Tibetan schools challenging. Sharethecare launched the "One Dictionary" Educational Assistance Initiative to help children learn and read more effectively by donating Chinese-Tibetan dictionaries to Tibetan schools in Yushu, Qinghai.
Through local Communist Youth League committees and schools, we will centrally coordinate the distribution and management of dictionaries, and conduct regular follow-ups to assess how the dictionaries are being used and to better understand the children's academic and daily needs. At the same time, "Love and Future" organizes annual visits or research trips to Tibetan schools in Qinghai and conducts in-person mini-classes for the children to boost their enthusiasm for learning.
The plan is to collect and donate 2,000 Chinese-Tibetan dictionaries to 10 Tibetan schools in Yushu, Qinghai, to help Tibetan children improve their reading and writing skills, express themselves and communicate more effectively, and gain more opportunities to learn about the world and pursue further education.
