Beginning school is one of the landmark moments in a child’s life, but new beginnings can bring both excitement and anxieties for incoming nursery children.
“There are two major transitions to make – the first social, the second academic,” explains Lillian, nursery teacher at the recently opened Agape Christian School, in Barogal, Omoro District, which is still in the process of registering children.
“How big a transition it depends on the child and the background that they come from,” she says. “If they are coming from a family where some children have attended school before, it can be less of a transition. It also matters how important education is to their parents. In this area, early learning education is still a new concept. Parents will weigh whether to take the child to an early learning school or wait until primary school. The challenge here is most times they will not pass the primary interview and therefore struggle throughout their education
Lillian and her team have been visiting homes and markets around the school, encouraging parents to bring their children to school. “One of the biggest challenges, that is depriving children of starting early in school is the low level of incomes of most of the parents in this community”, Lillian said
When young children come to school and find a friendly environment, it helps for them to quickly transition and love school. Children make friends very fast.
Agape Christian School is a new early learning school that has been established in Omoro District with the aim of building a foundation of quality education for this community. For us to encourage more parents to send their children to school we need to continue sensitizing them about the importance of education.
We want to enroll 150 children this year. I would like you to support us in this work because we all agree that education is key to development.
For the education of these children, we ask you to use your mouse to click more, take five minutes to share our global giving page with your contacts and tell them why you decide to donate to us and why they should do the same.
