Children eating at Riverkids
Because you’ve been so amazing – today, we are closing our food fundraising campaign on GlobalGiving.
You’ve helped to fulfill the destiny of nearly 600 children with daily meals at a whopping US$61,308. This is simply astounding.
During the past 11 months, your generosity had done more than just filling the tummies of our children before they head off to school.
They had meals and snacks in the afternoon and our Weekly Boarders had dinner. Our children were able to focus in class, learn more and have a good play break instead of going to bed hungry.
It freed up their parents’ income to pay for utilities, rental, medical and emergency needs. They were able to forgo a little income to attend our skills training for a sustainable livelihood because someone, you, made it a point to feed their children.
We were able to give cash to a group of families to buy rice, extra eggs, fish sauce and noodles. These are people in our programs whom we’ve identified as highly critical and needing our help most during severe crises at home.
We managed to stretch the dollar due to discounts that the local markets gave to our housemothers for the bulk purchase of ingredients.
All in all, we spent less and got more; we reached more children with less money; and we impacted the children’s parents and siblings, which brought about financial and psychological stability in their families.
What an enormous difference you’ve made by feeding our children in Cambodia.
And get ready for the good news: because you’ve been incredibly generous on last year’s Bonus Day, Riverkids has been promoted from Partner to Superstar status on GlobalGiving. This means that when our new food campaign is up on June 12th 2013, GlobalGiving will match your online donations made on their website to Riverkids of up to US$1000 per person with, not 30%, but 50% bonus! This will continue until the bonus money is fully exhausted.
We will share more details with you about this wonderful campaign that is made possible with GlobalGiving’s generosity and your tremendous support in our upcoming emails prior to the big day.
In the meantime, we’ve attached a recipe specially prepared by a lovely Cambodian lady living in Singapore for a fabulous dish called Nom Banh Samlor Khmer, a Cambodian soup noodle that tells you how warmly grateful we are to you for being such a superb donor!
Catch up soon.
Exceedingly grateful,
Elaine
PS: If you have made recurring donations towards this project, GlobalGiving will communicate the instructions on how you could support their work or cancel future recurring donations. Thank you.
