Every child should have the chance to go to school, to learn to read and write. 4 million children in Angola do not have access to primary education. RISE builds primary schools in rural Angola to educate children, empower communities and contribute to the rebuilding of the country. Through GlobalGiving, we met our original goal to give 50 kids a chance to go to school, so we've increased the goal to give another 10 kids in Angola the opportunity for education!
Angola is a country where years of oppression and war left the infrastructure in ruins, where people particularly in rural areas had everything stripped from them. The 27 year civil war left a generation without education, unable to read and write. It is estimated that 4 million Angolan children have no opportunity for education. Education is the driving force behind any strong economy and a key factor in social and economic growth and well-being.
The outcomes are significant. This project will help fund a classroom at Alto Esperanca in the Benguela Province of Angola, giving 60 children the opportunity for education. The education received will enhance the lives of the students and their families, giving them hope for the future. Their dreams of becoming nurses, teachers, doctors, business leaders and engineers can become a reality. Children will be in school learning this year and every year for the next 25 or 30.
Education improves health, results in jobs, and empowers individuals. Educated children better understand their rights, advocate for themselves and their families, and are less likely to fall victim to exploitation. Education gives freedom, fostering vision and a desire for change. Educated children are more engaged in community issues, more apt to vote, take action and develop into leaders who tackle problems that impact the future of their country.
