We're so excited to report that we raised enough money in December through the GlobalGiving campaign to make a good start on the wall and not a moment too soon!
Our foster village was burgled during the December holidays while the mums and children were away, and clothing, household goods and appliances were stolen! This just highlighted for us the importance of building this wall so that our children can grow up in a safe and secure environment.
So it was an amazing day when the giant TLB machine arrived to begin digging the foundation trench. Most of the digging was completed within a day and only those areas of ground with piping or cables needed to be dug by hand to avoid creating issues with water and electricity supply. Two of our post school boys enthusiastically jumped in (literally) to help with the digging!
The foundation trench is now ready for the 2nd phase of preparation, which will be the placement of steel reinforcing before the concrete is poured. This will start next week and hopefully we will be able to pour the concrete before too long.
So a huge thank you to everyone who donated so generously. We are truly grateful and can't wait for the completed wall. Our fundraising campaign on GlobalGiving is ongoing, so please do encourage your friends, family and colleagues to give and help us give our children a safe living environment.
