Health  Nepal Project #25911

Give 110 Nepalese Families the Gift of Clean Water

by BridgIT Water Foundation Vetted since 2015

Summary

Clean water at the local school and in the village wards will provide immediate and long-term impact on health, improved sanitation, and hygiene for 572 residents and 437 students in rural Nepal. Water delivered from a remote safe water source reduces women's chore of fetching water up steep mountains and carrying it down challenging trails, greatly improving quality of life, improving health, and giving these people time and energy to create and operate businesses to improve livelihoods.

Challenge

Nepal's extreme geography defines the water crisis. Women must make long, dangerous journeys to reach safe water sources. Freeing women and girls from the arduous and time consuming task of water collection in the mountains gives them greater opportunities to work, form entrepreneurial business, advance their educations, and build community and family bonds. Therefore, installing this water infrastructure and bringing WASH awareness changes society at depth by easing the burdens of rural life.

Solution

A chamber was already built above Birta to collect clean water from the Thulikhola mountain source. Funding is needed now to dig trenches and run pipelines 1.5 km down to a new collection chamber in town. Pipelines will run from there to gravity-fed taps at Shree Bhumesthan' Secondary School, Ward 1, and Ward 2, supplying 25,000 liters/day for drinking, washing, and bathing. Toilets will be built to eliminate diseases associated with open defecation. Low rates will build up a maintenance fund.

Long-Term Impact

Westerners take fresh, safe drinking water for granted. In Nepal, that is just not the case. BridgIT Water Foundation volunteers time, energy, and money to improve water availability to those most in need. Your tax-deductible contribution to the Birta Project can help. Feel great about your contribution knowing that BridgIT will be diligent with the required project reports. BridgIT Water Fdn wants you to become a long-term supporter, and it will work hard to earn your trust. Please check links.
