Dear Supporters,
The Special CNIC for persons with disabilities is a process that requires them to go through 4 Government departments and since the 6th census is going on, we spent the past 3 months fulfilling one of the first steps for our beneficiaries which is obtaining a Disability Certificate, with your support.
This entailed collecting relevant documents of 300+ children enrolled in ABSA School and JS Academy for the Deaf and of individuals with disabilities who are part of our database to facilitate their disability certificates. The Disability Certificate is issued by the Social Welfare department once the check up is complete by the medical board/practitioner (hence Step 2 and 3 are taken care of here), thus helping in education, employment and other purposes (legal etc.).
This also spares persons with disabilities the hassle of going to various departments and leaves them to now only obtain their employment exchange (Step 1) card (if aged above 18 years) and prepares them for the final step (Step 4) which is the processing of their Special CNICs by the final Government body – NADRA.
In the words of our energetic trainee Hamza who studies at ABSA School, "I cannot wait to develop my CNIC card and enjoy the rights it gives me as a Pakistani citizen."
Striving towards the identity and inclusion of this disenfranchised group with all your support!
