Dear Supporters,
Given that the Government is occupied with the census taking place after 19 years, we decided to start with the basics and register our beneficiaries from our partner schools, training centers and organizations for the Special CNIC so that they are being catered to holistically (the identity-education-empowerment cycle). This has multiple benefits such as enhanced awareness, an opportunity for the beneficiaries to avail benefits earlier and ease of burden for guardians.
The Resource Directory was also updated with locations of the different Government offices one needs to visit for the SCNIC process. We are also working on adding the list of places/services that offer benefits for persons with disabilities.
Through the impromptu disability awareness sessions titled ‘Baithak’ in our mobility and accessibility project, we continued to educate the audience about the SCNIC process for persons who were unaware as well as those who were striving to get the process completed – facilitating 3-4 SCNICs during this time. In the words of an audience member in the Jamshed Town Baithak - Kumber, “I know of a few persons with disabilities and this Baithak was very helpful in giving me ideas on how to help them such as for the Special CNIC – usually we see these in TV shows and newspapers but never on the street with live examples so this is a great initiative.”
Our goal to facilitate approximately 800 more SCNICs also includes hosting the larger one-window camp, however till that materializes; we are making efforts on a relatively smaller and closer scale. We also hope that the upcoming census will account for the number of persons with disabilities which will help more on this front – if the types of disabilities and numbers are tabulated correctly.
Looking forward to reaching our goal with your support!
