Dear Supporters,
The past 3 months have been very busy for our team with planning for next year and ensuring completion of tasks for this year. One of the most essential elements on the cards has been constant work on the Special CNIC (SCNIC) – how to disseminate awareness about it and facilitate the process for our peers with disabilities.
Besides researching on the benefits accrued to persons with disabilities through the Special CNIC, we are incorporating the process to register for an SCNIC in our online Resource Directory. This Directory will be a comprehensive platform for persons with disabilities and their care takers/guides, enabling them to know about and be updated of accessible services through platforms such as the website, text message service and on-site guidance. Since the SCNIC registration process is the same across Pakistan except Sindh, a video and instruction guide is being prepared to post online keeping in mind diversity of languages and disabilities.
Through the impromptu disability awareness sessions titled ‘Baithak’ in our mobility and accessibility project, we are also raising awareness about the SCNIC process, given the surprising numbers of unaware individuals. What is also essential to note is that identity is the foremost human right when we speak of the basic rights all human beings share, so the session very much highlights that and guides the audience members.
Last but not the least, the GlobalGiving Little by Little and Christmas Campaigns promotion helped us in highlighting the importance of the SCNIC and what it means to be a recognized and independent member of society with a disability.
With the Government’s occupation with verification of all Pakistani’s CNICs since mid of this year, we are still in talks with their departments to collaborate for the remaining registration camps across Sindh and look forward to rolling them out soon to benefit 800 individuals with disabilities.
Efforts from all our stakeholders mean much to us since this is not possible without collaboration and we look forward to your continued support!
Best Regards on the behalf of team NOWPDP!
