Thank you for your generous support of RISE and our project to give 100 kids in Angola the chance to go to school. We are over 2/3 of the way to our goal – 70 kids will have the opportunity for education. Let’s give 30 more the same chance.
This year marked 15 years of building schools – 170 schools with over 120,000 students in school annually! The impact in the lives of those children, their families, and communities is ongoing and significant… yet over 2 million kids in Angola still lack access to education.
Gifts given to RISE are multiplied further through our co-funding partnership with Educate A Child. Seven schools are under construction, with several soon to be completed and dedicated. The school year will begin in February and kids, like those at Kateke, will be seated at new desks, in new classrooms, with teachers ready to teach – all excited about their “grande” new school.
Thank you again for joining us, and we hope we can count on your continued support as we continue to bring access to education to the many children who are without the opportunity. We are truly grateful for your investment, for giving kids their basic right to education, and responding to their hopes and dreams.
The school year in Angola runs from February through November. For those fortunate kids who are attending class, they will soon be on break. However, there are many whose lives will remain the same because they have no school to attend. We are working to change that - with a commitment to give 24,000 MORE kids access to education by the end of 2020.
Educate A Child has partnered with RISE to co-fund the building of approximately 25 schools in Angola. Three schools have been dedicated and over 4400 students are in new classrooms learning. Construction of four more schools will be completed by February 2019 and ready for enrollment to begin for approximately 2600 students in those new schools. In addition, construction on two more schools has just begun - they will be dedicated and open next spring.
We thank you for your part in making a difference in the lives of the kids who will get to attend school, many for the first time. Education is the right of every child and we continue to work to give the children of Angola the opportunity for education.
RISE is celebrating 15 years of building schools in Angola. Our annual fall benefit will be held on Saturday, October 20, highlighting the ripple effect of education in the lives of the children, their families and communities. All are welcome - visit our website to register.
Project Update - MORE schools, MORE kids in school
By Debbie Hildebrand | Project Leader
Thanks for giving them a school!
Thanks for helping to give children in Angola a hope for the future through your support of RISE. Your gifts make a difference!
The first two schools built through our partnership with Educate A Child (EAC) are to be dedicated on Friday, July 6, and a team from RISE has traveled to Angola to join the celebration. A third school is completed and awaits an official date to be set for dedication. Construction for two more schools has begun, while four additional schools have been approved and funded. We’re excited that thousands of kids will be given the opportunity to receive a primary education.
The EAC partnership includes a Monitoring and Evaluation piece for tracking enrollment, attendance and retention of students in the new schools. This is an ongoing effort to gather data for reporting the impact of providing access to education. The communities are grateful for the schools and are committed to assisting in the process.
We have an opportunity to multiply the impact. GlobalGiving is hosting another Bonus Day on Wednesday, July 18. Donations up to $500 per unique donor will be matched at 50%. There will be $120,000 in matching funds, available beginning at 8:00:01 CST – until funds run out, which won’t take long! Please join us on July 18, to give even MORE kids the chance to go to school.
