By Patrick Kigongo | General Manager Act4africa Uganda
This has been a busy 3 months for the team in Jinja Uganda as we have been out in the communities in Mayuge, Uganda. We wanted to introudce you to one of the many girls you are helping through this project
Rebecca is her name and she is 17 years of age and attends a Vocational Training Institute near Jinja Uganda.
After being trained and supported as a "change maker" by ActAfrica Rebecca told us:
"I feel empowered now that I have been trained about gender and how best I can address my interests and needs as a young girl. I have been having a low self esteem and at times been manipulated by boys by the fact that am a girl but now I can express my feelings without any fear.
I can now stand firm and say no to men, and can confidently negotiate not only for safe sex but other spheres of life. I have as well realized that what can be done by a boy can be done by me, pehaps I should not feel low esteemed and should not expect any favor from any one simply because am a girl.
I thank Act4africa and all who support this project for such a good program, as it has really touched and changed my attitudes and am going to share it with my fellow peers at the institute and in my community".
Thats just one of many young beneficaries who are benefitting from our training with your support.
Thanks again for helping us to relase more "change makers" into their communities.
