By Ruth Kabugho - | Team leader ToT Kasese
Our Act4Africa teams across the breadth of Uganda have been busy this last few months.
One of the busiest has been our team of dedicated staff in Kasese, Western Uganda. They have trained 100 young Peer Educators in 4 sub counties, (Lake Katwe -20, Kisinga – 30, Munkunyu –30, Kyarumba -20). In 9 schools. Peer Educator trainees are equipped with information about gender equality, female autonomy and mutual gender respect
Feedback on Behaviour Change:
But its not just the females who gain from this teaching even the boys in the community are impacted. For example, one male stated "he had a new understanding of the links between gender issues and HIV/AIDS transmission and promised to change the negative attitudes he held about male superiority".
Over the next few months Ruth and her collegues will begin to train the next cohort of young women and we look forward to hearing how much it helps them make a change for the future !
