Act4Africa has worked to strengthen and empower young women and girls with skills that build their capacity and confidence, to change their lives for good.
Through a recent interaction with a young woman who was a beneficiary of the Strong Mothers project in 2023, the lasting impact of this program was evident. In 2023, Florence came to Act4Africa when she left her daughter in the hands of her father after separation, because she believed she could not take care of her.
She walked a journey with us, building resilience and reminding the young mothers of their power as women. One year down the road, she walks through the gates of Act4Africa with a smile. Amidst her hardships as a young woman with a low income, she found the courage to boldly pick her four-year-old daughter after learning that her daughter’s life was in jeopardy.
In her own words, she narrates, “I remembered what you used to tell us when I was here—that we can stand as women. This encourages me to work tirelessly each day, so that I’m able to meet the basics. I reflected continuously on the sessions on motherhood, and decision making which I had at Act4Africa last year and decided to fully take on my role as a mother. I will do every job that there is, to raise money to take care of my children.”
At Act4Africa, Kathy’s center, she visited to let us know of her decision and to find more strength and support on her new journey. This is why we exist. Many young women need to find a safe space where they will get a listening ear, and a hand to help them move forward. Florence’s ability to apply the skills she got 12 months ago, is proof that the impact of the strong mothers’ program to the lives of the young women who have benefited from it and those around them is sustainable.
Act4Africa is indebted to you, our partners, and well-wishers, who are at the forefront of this amazing work. Through combined efforts, we shall continue to support vulnerable young women and girls through their most challenging times, showing them the possibilities across the bridge.
