Today we feature Justine, a young woman who is a reflection of courage and determination.
As a single mother, Justine has faced significant challenges. After experiencing gender-based violence from her child’s father, she found herself isolated and struggling to support her young family. Life felt overwhelming until a friend introduced her to our adolescent Mothers thrive program.
The project became a lifeline for Justine. Through its health and well-being sessions, she found emotional healing and regained her confidence. The skills training in bakery and financial literacy gave her the tools she needed to rebuild her life.
This pushed her to borrow 30,000 UGX to start a small business making and selling samosas in her village. She now earns a daily profit of 10,000 UGX and has already saved enough to buy a goat, her first step toward starting an animal-rearing business. Her dream is to expand her snack business to a busier location and, one day, save enough money to buy her own land.
Justine’s determination shines through in her words: “I will work hard, save money, so that I can also own my land.” Her story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when women are given the support they need to thrive.
Thanks to GlobalGiving. Justine is not just surviving—she’s creating a better future for herself and her child. We’re inspired by her journey and grateful for everyone who supports this transformative work.
What’s Next:
More youth will receive training in tailoring and start-up kits to launch their own businesses.
Thank you for being part of this journey and helping women like Justine rewrite their stories.
