Children in Ouelessebougou are thrilled that school is out this month. This joy is even sweeter after a successful school year made possible by the partnership of the villagers and Ouelessebougou Alliance.
These and more educational opportunities were made possible because of the generosity of our donors. Every dollar donated to our education programs in Ouelessebougou directly benefit the students in each of our 12 village elementary schools. The Alliance is committed to increasing the enrollment of girls to 50% in the 2017 - 2018 school year. The Alliance works closely with the Village Education Councils to educate village parents on the importance of sending their daughters to school. In a culture where girls traditionally stay home to help their mothers with housework, it is imperative that parents recognize the value of a quality education -- for everyone.
You can help us prepare for a successful 2017 - 2018 school year by making a donation today! Thank you for believing in the girls of Ouelessebougou. Iniche!

The education of girls is of primary importance to Ouelessebougou Alliance. Village Education Councils make plans and coordinate efforts to create a literate village. A major focus is increasing girls' enrollment and educating parents in the village on the importance of their daughters receiving an education. One of the ways this is accomplished is through teacher training. Teachers are trained to initiate parent-teacher relationships to help families recognize the value in ALL children receiving a quality education.
While girls in Ouelessebougou have traditionally stayed home from school to help raise their siblings, their parents now realize the importance of sending them to school. More than 45% of the students in attendance this year are girls! Unlike their mothers, these girls have access to a school, sanitation, teachers and quality learning. Our schools continually have a higher girls' enrollment rate (over 20%) than the rest of Mali.
With your help, the Alliance hopes to continue to further educational opportunities for girls in Ouelessebougou. A $25 donation will send ONE girl to school for a whole year!

Many people see education as a singular issue. Especially in the region where the Alliance works, education is school supplies, teacher trainings, and building structures. And while those are extremely important, education, especially for girls, is so much more.
Girls with 8 years of education are 4 times less likely to be married as children.
Every year a girl stays in school her income will increase by 10-20%.
Each extra year of education for a mother reduces the probability of infant mortality by 5-10%.
Educated mothers are more than twice as likely to send their own children to school.
The Ouelessebougou Alliance is, has been, and will always be, committed to girl’s education. We are committed to expanding primary educational opportunities to village children generally, and specifically, to increasing the number of girls in school.
We are committed to spreading information about the importance of education and the cause- and -effect relationship it has with other important factors in individual’s lives, especially in developing areas.
It is only through support from people like you that we can continue to bring these programs to Ouelessebougou! And, it is only through our partnership with people like you, that we can help spread the message of education all over the world.
Thank you for your support of educating girls! We couldn’t do it without you!
Thank you! Merci! Iniche!

We are thrilled about the new school that was built in the village of Famana over the summer! We are incredibly grateful to the donors who made this dream a reality!
Famana has been in desperate need for a new school building and the villagers are incredibly excited about this opportunity! They are committed to making this a long term, sustainable investment with teacher support and PTA meetings. You too can help insure this is a sustainable program by investing in teacher trainings and school supplies.
We are more thrilled to say that this school will educate 130 students and over half of those will be girls! Currently 65 million girls are out of school globally.
Famana’s commitment to education – and girl’s education in particular – is a reminder to us all about the power of one small community working for progress and change. And it is a reminder that your gift goes a long way into securing this progress and change for the next generation.
We cannot wait to see what the future holds for the village of Famana and its students. Thank you for your commitment to girl’s education!

Education for girls has not always been a fundamental right, and in many parts of the world, due to practical or cultural reasons, it is still not an important issue.
In our region of the world, historically girls were expected to stay at home and help with chores such as: gathering firewood, walking miles to collect water, and tending to younger siblings.
But we know, that the more girls are educated, the better it is for everyone. UNESCO tells us a mothers’ education improves child nutrition, and girls with higher levels of education are less likely to get married and have children at an early age.
Ouelessebougou Alliance is committed to increasing the number of girls in school and seeing those girls complete their primary education all the way through high school. We work with Village Education Councils and the parents associations to educate them about the importance of girls going to school and to encourage them to send their daughters on a regular basis.
None of our training would be possible without you! Your support changes not only these girl’s lives, but the lives’ of the communities they live and learn in!
Thank You!
