Overview
The Girls in Science and Technology project expands access for public school students—especially girls aged 12 to 18—to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The initiative fosters interest across multiple areas of science, going beyond robotics, while developing essential technical and socio-emotional skills for academic and professional futures.
Through workshops, hands-on classes, mentorship, and participation in scientific events—such as Science Days and the Technology Education Week, promoted by Instituto Alpha Lumen—participants are encouraged to explore, experiment, and broaden their understanding of opportunities within scientific fields.
Reach and Implementation
Developed by Instituto Alpha Lumen, the project has already impacted more than 100 students, primarily in São José dos Campos (SP), through a practical and accessible methodology.
The initiative also includes students from the Institute’s own educational program, expanding access to formative experiences in science and technology and strengthening an integrated environment for talent development.
Results and Impact
Participants developed knowledge in science and technology, as well as skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork. There has been a noticeable increase in engagement, self-confidence, and interest among girls in pursuing pathways in scientific fields.
