Greetings from BREADS Bangalore!
With great pleasure we inform you that with the support through GlobalGiving platform 144 children are continuing their education in school and soon to complete their academic year. The children are busy preparing for their final exams that is to be held in Mach 2017 before the summer holidays.
During the month of December children had a frolic during Christmas holidays after the mid-term assessment in school. The girl children were part of the Christmas celebration where they had opportunity to show their talents in dancing, singing, skit and art competitions. Children were in festive mood and wore beautiful dresses to commemorate the occasion. The last three months the children in formal education system had great opportunity to be part of the village administration. Children educated about the child rights in school took part in special children’s gramashabha (meeting with district administration officials) where they raised voice to attain the child rights and education facilities that government is ought to provide. Education and exposure to the formal education has empowered girls to voice out and participate actively in children’s gramashabhas. In the districts of north Karnataka girl children also protested against child marriage and school dropout through rallies in the city.
During this reporting period we have received USD 2196.93 for this project. The money is mainly used for education fees, uniform and dresses, nutritious foods, stationery and reading materials for children. Children has improved well in studies and is happy that they are continuously attending school, if without support they would have dropped out of school and been married off at any point after 13 years according to the practice in their village. They are content that they are advancing to the next year of academics soon.
The children are aware that the generous support through GlobalGiving platform is helping them to develop and grow in the right direction. The children and BREADS are very grateful for the gesture of backing to assist vulnerable girl children to be empowered through education and have a better childhood.
