Dear Donors,
Greetings from BREADS Bangalore!
We are happy to inform you that the 144 poor girl children from Karnataka region are continuing their formal education with the generous support received from you through Global Giving Platform. The new academic classes have started from June 2016 onwards and it is awesome that all the girl children rescued from the child labour situation are in the school. One of the BREADS’ flagship projects named “Child Rights Education and Action Movement” (CREAM) addressing the child rights issues was completed and it helped to prevent child marriages, child labour, school dropouts and facilitated the parents to send their children to school especially the girl children. The child rights clubs formed in the schools have now taken measures for 100% school enrolment of the children. This project has helped BREADS significantly to rescue the girl children from many risk conditions (child labour, child marriage) and mainstream them into formal schools. The support from GlobalGiving further actuated the continuity of the education of these poor girl children otherwise the can be high chances of them being dropouts again.
In the month of June, World Day against Child Labour was observed with the theme ‘end child labour in supply chains’. One of the fair trade principles is to ensure that no child labour or forced labour is involved in production. In spite of all this, a working child is not a rare sight in our country and in Karnataka. BREADS makes it a point to voice against child labour, violating the child’s right to education. Don Bosco Centres have made significant efforts to stop child labour and protect the rights of children. Anti-Child Labour Day was observed in North Karnataka districts by involving children and other stakeholders including parents, teachers, youth, NGO representatives and government officials. The event created awareness on the importance of education among children, parents and the community.
During this reporting period we were assured USD 1351.98 (INR 88873.04) for our project. We used this money for the education, food, clothes and education materials of the poor girl children. All the children were upgraded into the next level classes and the children from bridge school were admitted in various classes according to their age and learning capacity.
The children are regularly followed up by Don Bosco/BREADS staff in order to ensure their continuity in schools and improved education standard.
The support received from you through GlobalGiving platform was really a grace for the less privileged girl children to regain their right to education and childhood. All the children expressed their gratitude and happiness for what they have received from your generous hands.
A Big Thank you from all of us here!!!
