Though 2 months is very short period to give a report for community development project. This new journey of RASTA with Global Giving, presently RASTA is providing education to 1200 underprivileged girls in different learning centers. During July 2019 we have identified 60 new out of schoolgirls from one of the ragpicker community in Khora Colony Ghaziabad, Utter Pradesh. Classes were started for them now they are regularly coming to our learning centers.
Khora is located at the border of Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad (both satellite towns of Delhi). The settlement, with its extended population in the form of Khora colony, is situated between the south eastern periphery of Delhi, the south western periphery of Ghaziabad and north western periphery of Noida. Khora which had a population of 656 according to 1971 census had a population of around 1 million in 2013, earning the epithet ‘Asia’s biggest labor colony’. It is spread over an area of 12 sq. km and is inhabited by people migrated from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, MP, Orissa and Haryana, in search of livelihood. Most of them work as rickshaw-pullers, rag pickers, factory workers, vegetable sellers, daily wagers etc.
There is a high need in the community to promote Girl Child Education, as there is no school in the vicinity especially for girls. The only Government School in the area, is very far. Besides, the government school infrastructure is not that supportive that these girls can go.
Education and classes are totally new experience for these girl’s maximum of these girls never been to school. Now they have started new life will continue with learning. Below are the classes in progress.
