Project Activity in progress

Established in 1996, Literacy India (LI) is a non-profit organization that has been tirelessly working to strengthen the pillars of education empowerment employability, and an environment for women children, and youth from underserved backgrounds. Our Work has impacted and transformed lives by continuously engaging in building resilient communities through its evolving program strategies

Literacy India scaled from one state of Haryana to 17 different states of India and has benefited a total of over 800,000 beneficiaries (Year 2022) through its different projects. All initiatives and programs of Literacy India are evolved and adapted to be innovative, sustainable and replicable in different parts of the country.

Literacy India has been advocating technology-aided education and enhancing digital skills for over two decades. In sync with the requirements of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), Literacy India has pioneered the delivery of future skills training and engendering STEM aptitude among its students in an integrated education format. With the onset of 4IR the nature of jobs is changing, and so are the desired education and skill set this is also evident from the change in the school curriculum as directed under the latest Education Policy by the Government of India i.e. NEP 2020. The importance of an early interventions and introduction of NEP in the Middle and Elementary schools has been supported by a number of government and non-government reports suggesting that adopting a strong STEM background at an early age in the life of a student will encourage tech- empowered participation. This will help the country and its citizenry in reaping the early bird advantage as students proceed through middle, high school, and on to post-secondary education.

Literacy India has already set up Robotics & Digital Labs in its schools and these laboratories serve as spaces that allow students to explore, experiment, tinker and create. Under LI’s Future Skills project there are two components one, teaching fundamentals of coding Scratch, Python and second, creating Applications using MIT app inventor as well robotics introduced advanced Artificial Intelligence kit - WHALESBOT MODULE 2.0.

This is introduced to the students with new components, sensors, processors, actuators etc. Programming software – SCRATCH is used for coding the Robots. Presentation on new Robotic Kit with videos were shown to the students like Gearing parts, structural parts, and appearance parts. Whales Bot Al Module 2 has more than 480 parts which function as gearing parts, structural parts, connectors, and appearance parts Children can build diverse teaching and competition projects upon these parts. These programs build competencies that allow individuals to solve complex problems in highly emergent contexts of action in a self-organized way and enable them to act successfully.

Children have made various models using the Advanced AI kit -WHALESBOT MODULE 2, which was introduced to the students with new components, sensors, processors, actuators, etc. several projects works like Spinning Charkha, Auto Faucet Conveyor, Belt Ball Thrower, Human-Robot to understand the concept of many different ways how the same sensor is used, and relate that how cotton is being converted into thread.

IMPACT STORY

I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” these words by Mother Teresa hold deep meaning, especially regarding the role of girls and women in Haryana. Girls have always shined and become role models. From Kalpana Chawala to Phogat Sisters, they have proved that girls are not lesser than boys.

Alpana(Name Changed) has a passion for coding. She is studying in Literacy India Vidyapeeth school in Gurgaon, and her parents are natives of the Jhajjar district of Haryana, which is 43 KM away from the millennium city of Gurgaon. Her parents migrated to Gurgaon for work and got menial jobs as a peon and in housekeeping in the local offices and companies. Her elder sister studies in the same school in 9th- Grade, and her younger brother in 6th-Grade. Both parents want their children to get higher education as they are Semi -Literate. They want their daughters should get higher studies.

Computing is like solving a puzzle because the operations are like pieces to do the puzzle and solve the problem. Alpana(Name changed) wanted to be a front-end web developer and make her career in Computer programming. She got inspired by Kaun Banega Banega crorepati (Famous KBC TV-Serial) and completed a quiz program in Python. She is focused and consistent in her projects, and her computer teacher always praises Alpana(Name Changed). She has a hunger for knowledge and always attends her mentorship session given by senior developers from IT companies. She is very excited to talk about her Digital Mentorship learning sessions about Machine learning and AI.

Entire Team of Literacy India , Children, Youth and Women wish all our GlobalGiving Donors and to GlobalGiving Team. Happy Holidays!
