Youth and women in our society are in immense need of livelihood opportunities, however most often they are not found capable to acquire a required skill for the same, hence limits their decisions.
Our Karigari Program helps to improve the status of women / Youth in the society by providing them with livelihood opportunities through vocational training in the areas based on beneficiaries’ preferences and aptitude.
The opportunities created in the following manner:
Electrician Training
Electrical training course for youth covers the following domains - Understanding the general safety of tools and equipment, Describing electricity, conductor, insulator, voltage, current, resistance, Potential difference and inter-relation between Voltage, Current, and Resistance etc, Explaining the difference between Alternating and direct current, Describing the purpose of Earthing and types of earthing. Post successful completion of course candidate will be able to take precautions in any electrical hazards.

Module 3 - Understanding simple Electrical Connections and Faults in a circuit

‘Sincerity and Determination became a gateway for Success’
Name : Manohar Kumar ( Name Changed) Age: 22 Location :West Bengal
Manohar Kumar is a persistent and resourceful young boy of 22 years, resides in a small village named Chhatatar in West Bengal. Born in a family of extreme poverty and came across number challenges in each step of life due to economic constraints but never give up and continued to work. His father is a daily wage labourer and works hard to make a living for the family of 5 with a small income of Rs 3000 per month.
It has been rightly said that, ‘Success comes to those who tirelessly work for it.’ Manohar is a perfect example of it. Once Manohar was sitting among his friends and learnt about the electrical training course run by Literacy India for skill building in youth at its Lowkui centre in West Bengal. He always looks for opportunities in skill building for earning livelihood and on learning about the course from his friends, he became inquisitive to know about it. On the very next day, he went to the centre and made detailed enquiry about it and enrolled himself in the course.
Later, he joined training in the Literacy india centre and diligently worked. Under the course, he developed sound understanding on First Aid, Basics of Electrical Engineering, Wiring instruments, accessories, cable wire joining, wiring system –house and circuit, wiring test and estimation etc.
With time, his interest developed much in the subject and develop proficiency in the technical skills learnt. Post completing his course of 5 months, he started working with an electrician and does the work of house wiring in the Baghmundi area. Skills learnt in electrical training, now made him earn a living of Rs 3000-4,000 a month. In the near future, he wishes to enhance his skills in the domain and plans to open his own shop of electricity fitting.
Its Manohar’s willingness to learn and determination for work that made him a successful person today.
